New Product Feature: The Armstrong Brain Mixing Valve
First of all, wed like to say hello and thanks for taking a minute to look at the Hesco Mid South Newsletter. Every so often (re: when John gets a new idea) we will be sending everyone out a link to the newsletter and included in this great page of American literature will be new product lines we are representing, updates on existing products and, hopefully, some fairly hilarious tidbits.
This month, Hesco Mid South would like to introduce you to one of the new lines we represent. With each Hesco Mid South Newsletter, we will present either a new line that weve taken on or familiarize everyone with some aspect of the products that we represent. This month, we are featuring the new Armstrong Rada Central Re-Circulation System, or, as it is affectionately known, the Rada Brain. If you want the full Brain tour click here, or you can continue scrolling down this page to see an overview.
What It Will Do & Why
Over the many years, while searching galaxies far, far away and companies near and far, we have finally found a mixing valve that is better than anything else we have unearthed in regards to mixing hot water. Inconceivable, you say? Not any more with the addition of the Armstrong Rada Brain to the Hesco Mid South line.
Remember "frozen" valves? Yeah, we do too. They were so much fun, kind of like that used car you bought on your 16th birthday- sure it ran, once, and after that you were constantly fixing and refixing the damn thing until it finally ran (or just died on the front lawn). Then, as if the "freezing" wasn't enough, it took you forever to sit there and diagram the piping combined with the (always enjoyable) lengthy setup and balancing. To quote Edith and Archie Bunker, "those were the days". And these were just some of the problems with the old mixing valves. There was the necessary 8 degree temperature difference for recirculated water (Like anyone has the time to sit around with a bag of ice and cool the damn thing down), the adjusting of the PRV and the need for equal pressure on the hot and cold water complicated set. All of them a ton of fun. We know, we had the same fun you did.
Thankfully, though, these issues have been resolved and there will be no more fun days at work because we know how much everyone (including ourselves) just loved those days. Maybe, given some time, we can all remember those days blissfully over a cocktail or a dinner (or both).
Along came the Brain and with it the end of the mixing valve problems. Now, the Brain is electronically controlled. With that, there came a motor to adjust the temperature (put away your bags of ice, please) that is much stronger than the thermostatic approach. Instead of a day of diagrams (and again, we're truly sorry we took this little joy out of your laps), the Brain needs about 15 minutes of setup and piping diagrams. Remember that 8 degrees? Well, all of a sudden, the Brain comes along and it can work with just about any pressure or temperature difference. And, amazingly, the Brain can be tied to B.A.S. Lastly, and this might come as a shock to all of you so we hope you are seated or next to someone of the opposite sex who you find attractive, the Brain is backed by Armstrong International! We won't write it again, but you read that right.

What It Won't Do
~Bring you a nice cup of French Roast when you're getting out of bed
~Settle any disputes between UT, Memphis and Arkansas fans
~Leave the seat down after it uses the little Brain's room
~Make your Tax audit more enjoyable
~Bring on World Peace (although it will bring more peace to your world)
The Specs
Rada Solutions for Central Re-Circulation System Control:
Say goodbye to dangerous overnight "temperature creep" with mixing valves specifically designed and configured to be the central controller in a pumped re-circulating hot water system. Precise control at both full flow and during those critical low flow and non demand periods Rada "R" valves offer control between 1 and 98 GPM. Flexi-Flo pre-plumbed package assemblies offer flow rates up to 300 GPM while maintaining full low flow control capability.
With the EMC, we took the thermostat out and put in The Brain®. Delivering unparalleled hot-water temperature control, "The Brain" will change the way you think about central hot-water distribution systems.
Designed specifically to provide +/- 2°F recirculation-system control during zero-demand idling periods, "The Brain" also provides remarkable performance across the full diversity of hot-water use. And it has no minimum system draw-off requirement. With remote programming and control features, and building-automation system interface capability built into the mixing unit, "The Brain" offers an unequalled portfolio of valuable benefits.
"The Brain" from Armstrong is supplied as preplumbed frame-mounted packages and are available in 075 GPM (0273 LPM) and 0150 GPM (0568 LPM) capacities. With 2025 hours of site-based labor removed from the installation side of the equation, "The Brain" assemblies are sensibly priced.
"The Brain" has just one application. It is specifically designed to provide primary water temperature control for a recirculating hot-water system during zero demand (idling) and during variable demand (draw-off) periods.
"The Brain" combines modern integrated circuit technology with precision hydraulics, to deliver an unparalleled level of water-temperature control supremacy. This is where we have captured some moments in time.
The Rada Z358 series of mixing valves were designed specifically to provide tepid water to emergency fixtures as detailed in ANSI Z358.1-1998. For more information about "The Brain" for emergency fixture control, contact
